The various Salsa rhythms are both unusual and excitng, and the dance is no exception.
The dance steps do not conform to many other styles of dancing, in that two beats are danced with the same foot. This means that provided with an initial challenge the ensuing results are both rewarding and exciting.
The first hour is for beginners and each beginners class caters for complete beginners whether you have 'two left feet' 'bad co -ordination' 'no sense of rhythm's not!
THE BEGINNERS CLASS is designed to teach the very basic rhythm with the appropriate footsteps. Attention will also be paid to the initial development of individual style. Students are encouraged to move on to the Introductory Intermediates Class once they have a firm command of the basic rhythm. This should be more or less automatic, enabling easier coordination of further steps and spins.
THE INTERMEDIATE CLASS should be undertaken once the student has a relatively large repertoire and is very comfortable with the rhythm. This class aims to increase the'repertoire' with a variety of different moves and combinations. To help in the 'transition on ' from the previous class students are encouraged to attend both classes in the initial stages.
In all classes we change partners constantly. This helps to create a friendly and sociable atmosphere and enables the student to experience dancing with a variety of partners. As both men and women lead in these classes both leaders and followers are totally integrated which can result in uni-leading. Most people comment on how refreshing it is to see lesbians and gay men in one space so obviously enjoying the dance and each others company.
The classes are ongoing,you can join them at any given point and you don't need to bring a partner.
No special footwear or clothes are required and you should wear what you feel is the most comfortable (although thick heavy trainers are not the most suitable).
